January 4: "To
Make a Poet Black, and Bid Him Sing!" - Hal Lieberman
The
poet Countee Cullen, a major writer of the Harlem Renaissance,
had the gift of conveying an idea or a feeling with a few
words and a twist. I would like to see if he has the effect on
you that he's had on me. Hal is a longtime member of the
Fellowship.
Today is First Sunday. Every one is invited to stay for Soup and Bread

January 11: “The
Changing Landscape of
St.
Cloud” - Mary T. Howard
Mary, in
St Cloud
since 1980, will comment on
then and now, specifically from her perspective. She
will also comment on the implications for the future as
she sees it, in terms of social and economic changes.
Mary is a psychologist at the VA Hospital, has taught
at St Cloud State Univ., and
St. Cloud
Technical
College
; and been an elected
member of the Dist 742 School Board. She is also on the
MNSCU Diversity Council and is a member of the State Operated
Service Board. She
is also a long- time member of the Fellowship.

Reading
– Larry Schug
Avon
resident Larry Schug, recently
awarded a Central Minnesota Arts Board Grant, as well as a
$25,000 Loft-McKnight Award, returns to the Fellowship to read
for us this morning. Larry, recycling coordinator for
the
College
of
St. Benedict
, has published four books of
poetry and has another ready for publication.

25: “TORTURE”
A speaker from the Center for Victims of Torture in
Minneapolis
will speak about the work of
the Center in light of the
US
policy on torture. On November
15th the UUA Commission on Social Witness
released the rough draft for the Statement of
Conscience on Peacemaking,
which includes the call to end the use of torture.
