Here you will find answers to our most frequently asked questions about Windows 95 and/or Windows 98.
If you double click on the dialer icon near your clock in the lower right corner of your computer screen (it looks like 2 little computer screens)
This should give you a window that will include a button called "disconnect", click this button and it should disconnected you from the internet.
Outlook Express has two places that you will need to check and set which dialer you want it to use.
First, open Outlook Express,
Click "Tools" and then "Accounts". Click the "Mail" tab, Click on the first mail account to highlight it.
Click "Properties", then on "Connection". Click "Use my Phone Line".
In the box next to "Use my Phone Line" should be the name of the dial-up connection you want to use. (exp. Cloudnet, Connection to 257-1040, etc...).
To change dialers click the down arrow to the right of the window, and click on the name of the correct dial-up connection. Click "OK"
Repeat this with all mail accounts, and then "Close" the accounts window.
Now click on "Tools", and "Options", then click the "Dialin" tab.
Click on "Dial This Connection". The dial-up connection that appears in this box should be the same as the one that appears in the "Accounts" section above. Click "OK".
If you have a letter in your Outbox, delete it, a bad letter in the Outbox can prevent any subsequent letters from being sent.
The outbox goes by first in first out, so if the first letter is bad, it will also prevent any following letters from being sent.
If there is no mail in the Outbox, then the Outbox itself may be bad. If this is the case you will want to do the following;
Click "Start", then "Find", and "Files and Folders", in the "Named" field you should type "outbox" , and the "Look in" field should be set to your C drive [C:\]
Click "Find Now".
You should now see a list of files appear below this screen.
Click on and delete the following 2 files;
"outbox.idx" and "outbox.mbx"
Close all open programs and restart your computer. These files will be replaced the next time you open Outlook Express.
Your inbox my be damaged. try the following;
Click "Start", then "Find", and "Files and Folders", in the "Named" field enter inbox , and set the "Look in" field to your C drive [C:\] Click "Find Now".
Click on and delete the following 2 files;
inbox.idx and inbox.mbx
Close all open programs and restart your computer. These files will be replaced the next time you open your mail program.

If you get this error regardless of the internet site you are trying to look at, then your computer probably is not seeing the internet.
Did you get the "Connect to:" screen when you opened Internet Explorer (or Netscape)?
yes - First try to recreate the dialup networking icon, to do this go into "My Computer" , then into "Dialup Networking", now "Right" click on the dialer icon (cloudnet, my connection< etc...) and left click "Delete", It will ask you "Are you sure you want to delete ..." you click "Yes". Now double click "Make New Connection", rename "My Connection" to "Cloudnet", click "Next", Leave the "Area Code" blank, and type the phone number you want to dial "usually 257-1040", then click "Next", then click "Finish".
Now you will want to "Right" click on the new "Cloudnet" icon and this time left click on "Properties", uncheck "Use Area Code and Country Code" (Area Code and Dialing Properties in Win98) now click on "Server Types", uncheck "Logon to Network", "NetBEUI", and "IPX/SPX". Click "OK", click "OK" again if you are not back to Dialup Networking. Close the Dialup Networking window, and any other open widows, and try to connect again.
If this does now work, then you may want to try reinstalling the Dialup Adapter and/or the TCP/IP protocol. Instructions on reinstalling TCP/IP and/or the Dialup Adapter.
No - Go to "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", "Internet Options".
Now click on the "Connection" tab.
In the middle of the page you should find 3 options.
Make sure "Always dial my default connection" is selected, then click "OK'.
If "Always dial my default connection" is already selected, you may need to access the dialer manually.
Open "My Computer" from your desk top. Then open "Dial-up Networking".
Right click on your Cloudnet dialer icon, and left click on "Properties".
Changing the phone number here will make the change permanent.
Click "OK".
