Setting SMTP authentication in Netscape Messenger 4.x.

SMTP authentication is required for sending mail using smtp.cloudnet.com from outside the St. Cloud local Dialing area, or when using an Internet Service Providor other then Cloudnet.

For Cloudnet customers who wish to use the Cloudnet SMTP servers (smtp.cloudnet.com) to send mail, and are connecting to the internet using one or more of the following:

You will need to enable the SMTP authentication support within your Netscape Messenger 4.x mail client.

Configuring the Outgoing Mail Server with Messenger 4.x:

  1. From the "Edit" menu on the toolbar, select "Preferences"
  2. Under the "Mail & Newsgroups" category on the left, select "Mail Servers". If you don't see "Mail Servers", click the plus sign (+) to display more categories

  3. Click "Edit"

  4. Change "Server Name:" to smtp.cloudnet.com.
  5. Click "OK".

  6. In the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" box, double check if it is "smtp.cloudnet.com".
  7. In the "Outgoing mail server user name" box, type your email username (Your email address without the @cloudnet.com).
  8. Under "Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) or TSL for outgoing Messages", select "never".
  9. Click "OK".

Because Netscape Communicator 4.x is fairly old, Cloudnet recommends that you only use these settings until you can upgrade to a newer mail client.
