How to Upgrade Your Modem to "V.90"
This page will help you upgrade your "X2" or "K56Flex" modem to the "v.90" (vee-ninety) technology standard. You can always call Cloudnet at 240-8243 for help, but we regret that we can't help much with the actual upgrading process. Each modem manufacturer does things somewhat differently. Your modem or computer manufacturer has all the information you need, so this webpage is simply an aid to find their information for your specific modem. Don't give up if you get stuck. Call us. We'll always try to help.
First, identify what kind of modem you have and write it down.
- Windows 95 or 98: Click on "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel". Double click on "Modems". The modem should be listed in the white box.
- Windows 3.1: Double click on the "Internet Explorer" group. Double click on the "Cloudnet" or "Con00000" icon. Click on the "Properties" button. Click on the "Modem" tab. The modem should be listed just above the "Change Modem" button.
- Macintosh: Click on the "Apple", choose "Control Panel". If you have a listing called "Modem" click on it. Otherwise the Macintosh assumes a generic modem. Check through the information that came with your Macintosh or call the store where you bought it for assistance.
- If your modem is not listed, try looking through the information that came with your computer or call the company that sold you the computer or visit the company's website.
Next, you will want to find the "product code" for your modem.
- For "USRobotics"-brand (also known as "USR" or "3Com"-brand) WinModems, visit the Winmodem web site by clicking here. On that page, parts One and Two are optional and show how to find the product code on the modem box or on the actual modem. If you want, simply skip ahead to Part Three entitled "Download and run the Modem Upgrade Wizard."
- For other USRobotics-brand (USR, 3Com or X2) normal modems, use the X2/V.90 Modem Update Wizard by clicking here. On that page, parts One and Two are optional and show how to find the product code on the modem box or on the actual modem. If you want, simply skip ahead to part Three entitled "Download and run the Modem Upgrade Wizard."
- For all other modems, click here to go to the K56Flex/V.90 upgrade page.
The final step is to change the phone number to 257-1040. Visit Change the Dial-Up number page for information on how to set the dial-up number.
