Cemetery Board

We believe . . .

As Catholics, we look upon the cemetery, the earthly home of the departed, as the burial place of the faithful who are awaiting the resurrection.  Hence, the cemetery is a sacred place that invokes blessed memories and so is worthy of our care and respect.  It is in accord with this faith that the regulations are adopted.  The word "cemetery" is from the Greek word that means "sleeping chamber", which also indicates our belief in the resurrection.  In our cemetery, bodies are placed so that they face east, in the direction of the rising sun.  This is in accord with the ancient custom of Christians who have both their cemeteries and churches facing east.

Chairpersons: Ray Schlichting, Duane Walz

Responsibilities:

·        Present at the opening and closing of graves

·        Levels cemetery grounds over the whole cemetery

·        Hire person to mow the grounds

·        Works toward the goal to make the cemetery look good

Funeral Committee

The six parish groups rotate in helping with funeral lunches.

Head cook - Jean Bemboom

6 Parish Groups rotate helping with funeral lunches.  Since funerals come up on short notice, Group Leaders phone their members for volunteers to set up the lunch tables (possibly the night before), to serve and clean up after the lunch (typically 11-2pm).  The Funeral Committee prepares the lunch.  The Head Cook meets with the family to determine menu and the anticipated number to be attending the lunch.  Based on this the Head Cook will request the number of workers needed as well as the number of donated cakes, bars, pickles, etc.
