Prayer for Priest - World Priesthood Sunday, Oct. 24/25

Praise to you, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
for in your infinite love
you care for your people
by the ministry of priests.

May their faithful service
bring lasting good to your Church
and great happiness to them.
Help them to do what is right,
that by their teaching and living
we may grow in the knowledge of your love.

As our priests instruct your people,
enlighten them with the wisdom of Christ the Teacher.

As they preach your Word and celebrate the sacraments,
sanctify them with the holiness of Christ the High Priest.

As they face weakness, suffering and discouragement,
strengthen them with the grace of Christ the Life-Giver.

As they work for peace, unity and healing in your Churc h,
uphold them with the courage of Christ the Reconciler.

Giver of all good gifts,
make the ministry of our priests
a spiritual offering pleasing to you,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

The month of October reminds us that all life comes from the hand of God, from the unborn to the elderly.

Lord Jesus, you gave sight to the blind and made the mute speak. Give me the faith to trust you and stand for the most defenseless of your children.  You know every hair on my head and you have infinite love for every person who has been hurt by abortion. Give me and all of my fellow brothers and sisters the courage to embrace you with open arms and to take your love into the world for the least of our brethren. May I be an instrument of your love and compassion in this 40 Days for Life campaign and to you may all glory be given.  We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ you Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.      Amen

The Year For Priests Prayer for Vocations

Good and gracious God, hear our prayer for an increase in priestly vocations.  Touch the hearts of young men in our world today.  Instill in them a burning desire to serve you. Give them the courage to answer your call with generous hearts.

Reveal to them a vision of your Kingdom. Help them to see the joy of priestly ministry.  Lead them in the footsteps of your Son, Jesus Christ.

We ask you to bless our seminarians and guide them on the path toward priesthood. Strengthen them as they are educated and formed in the duties and responsibilities of the priesthood. Help them to become faithful servants and leaders in the Church today. We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns now and forever. Amen.

Prayer for our Nation

Gracious and loving God, we come to you in humble prayer for the United States of America.

Bless our President.  Give him wisdom and strength to serve the American people and lead our country in way s that are pleasing to you.

Bless our Congress.  Instill in them knowledge and understanding to enact laws that protect the sanctity of life- from the unborn to the elderly; and promote the good of all people.

Bless the people of the United States.  Make us aware of our responsibility as citizens to uphold the principles of life, liberty, justice and equality.  Send your Holy Spirit upon our beloved country. Make us people of faith in time of uncertainty.  Make us people of hope in times of trouble. Make us people of compassion with those who are less fortunate. Make us people of peace in our homes, our community, our country, and our world.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior.  Amen

Come Lord Jesus, send out your Spirit;

A Prayer for Vocations

O loving and merciful God, you call us to follow the example of Jesus, your son, through lives of service to one another.

Open our minds and hearts to hear and recognize your call.

Give us the necessary grace to remain faithful in our choice to commit our lives to you in whatever way you lead.

We ask especially that you send you Holy Spirit upon the Church to stir the hearts of many to accept a vocation to serve you as priests, sisters, brothers and deacons.

In your name we pray.  Amen

Re-examine the Lord's Prayer:

I cannot say: Our if my religion has not room for other people and their needs.

I cannot say: Father if I do not demonstrate this relationship in my life.

I cannot say: Who are in Heaven if all my interests and pursuits are earthly things.

I cannot say: Hallowed be thy name if I who am called by his name am not holy.

I cannot say:  Thy kingdom come if I am unwilling to give up my sovereignty and accept the reign of God.

I cannot say:  Thy will be done if I am unwilling or resentful of having Him in my life.

I cannot say: On earth as it is in heaven unless I am truly willing to give myself to His service here and now.

I cannot say: Give us this day our daily bread without an honest effort or by ignoring the needs of others.

I cannot say: Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us if I continue to hold a grudge.

I cannot say: Lead us not into temptation if I deliberately choose to remain in a situation of temptation.

I cannot say: Deliver us from evil if I am not prepared to fight in the spiritual realm with the weapon of prayer.

I cannot say: Amen unless I can also honestly say, "Cost what it may, this is my prayer."

  • Send your blessing upon N.___________, who is serving our country in the armed forces.

By your powerful Spirit, shield him/her from all harm and return them safely to us.

          We thank you Lord.

  • Be with our church leaders and our priest as we twin with our sister parish Immaculate Conception, in Rice.  Keep us close to you as you have given your angels charge over us, to guard our ways. Psalms 91:11  Watch our "going out and our coming in from this time forth and for evermore."  Psalms 121:8

  • Civil war in Africa's Sudan - We pray that you will end this war of two decades and restore families

to their homes. Bring safety to the children in the form of food and clothing, and restore love between neighbors.  We also pray that you will show each of us what you want us to do, to           help.

  • Be with our public leaders, President Bush and his cabinet, to guide them in decisions and actions related to Iraq and it's people.  Protect the Christian community and strengthen them to walk in faith despite the daily dangers of doing so.

                                                    We thank you Lord.  Amen.
