          Luke 2:1-38; Matthew 2:1-14

Traveling to Bethlehem in Judea, one hundred miles from Nazareth, Joseph and Mary were following the command of Caesar Augustus, the Roman ruler. 

Finding no room at an Inn, they sheltered in a barn.  Jesus, our King and Savior, was born and swaddled in cloth placed in sweet-smelling hay in a manger.

Shepherds in the fields with their flock, were told of the newborn baby by angels of the Lord.  They went to Bethlehem to worship the babe.

Wise men sought audience with King Herod.  News that they were looking for a new baby king, sent Herod into a rage.  The wise men left the palace to follow the star in the East.  Finding Jesus, they presented their treasures of gold, frankencese, and myrrh.  Gold was a present given to kings.  Frankincense was burned on the altar of the Lord.  Myrrh was used to help persere bodies of people when they died.  God told the wise men to keep away from Herod.

When Mary and Joseph presented Jesus to the temple, Simeon blessed them.  Anna, a very old woman living at the temple, proclaimed, "This is the Messiah!"
