Rules for Joining

1) You must have a site that features a fancomic, the subject of which, can be anything. It can be based on, and use characters from, an existing anime or manga series. (ANY series--DBZ, Escaflowne, Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon). Or it could be something inspired by an American cartoon series or movie, (OR, if you're feeling really adventurous, something based on a live-action TV show. A Farscape fanmanga, for instance) It doesn't even HAVE to be a fanwork. It can be something based on your own original idea with your own original characters, I'm not that picky...

2) What we're looking for here are comics--Not single, stand-alone panels, not fanart galleries, not illustrated fanfiction, but original artwork in the form of a narrative story which unfolds over the course of more than one page.

3) Joining is simple. Just fill out this form. After you submit your site, you will receive an email with the proper html code to add to your page OR you can select an html fragment and/or logo from among the ones we provide you on this site. After you have added the proper code to your site (preferably on the title page of your comic), e-mail me and I will review your site and if I determine everything is on the up and up, I will add it to the ring.

Let me repeat that. After you have added the proper code to your site (preferably on the title page of your comic), E-MAIL ME and I will review your site and if I determine everything is on the up and up, I will add it to the ring.

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO E-MAIL ME ONCE YOU HAVE MADE THE NECESSARY CHANGES TO YOUR WEBPAGE. I am going to check up on your site after your initial application e-mail and see if you've inserted the proper ringlogo and html fragment into your webpage. If you have not done so within ONE WEEK of applying to my webring, then I will delete your application information and you will have to start all over from scratch. If you HAVE posted my ringlogo, but have forgotten to inform me by e-mail about your doing so, then, as cruel as it might sound, I will toss your application in the trash bin and the ringlogo and html fragment you have inserted into your webpage will NOT work. You WILL have to re-apply and start all over again. If, for some reason, you find yourself unable to make the changes to your webpage within a week's time, e-mail me and I'll grant you an extension. Likewise, if you encounter any problems with this process, or hit a snag along the road somewhere, let me know right away. My e-mail address is at dietzt@cloudnet.com.

4) I myself am not a fan of hentai, but if you've got a comic with "mature" material in it--R-rated violence, profanity, nudity or sex--you can join, provided you make a note of the presence of such material as part of your site description when filling out your form. Also, the title page of your comic (the page which the ringlogo and linking html appears upon) must be free of mature content and must somewhere contain a warning of such content within the comic itself. Sites which contain truly "objectionable" material-- rape, bestiality, extreme gore, child pornography, stuff which makes an episode of Kite look like an episode of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood-- are not welcome within my ring, and if I see such materials present on any site I come across, I will boot it off the list. (And, in the case of child pornography, I will not only boot it off, I will get the cops on your ass.)

Questions....

"Uh...My manga isn't very good... Do these things have to be of a certain quality before you let them on the ring?"

Let me be the first to say that Fancomic's Corner does NOT discriminate against comics, either on the quality of their art, or on the quality of their writing. I myself have been greatly entertained by comics which, artwise, look no better than stick figures, but which had great storylines. Don't feel that just because your figures stylistically resemble Picasso's instead of Michaelangelo's that you shouldn't be posting your work and trying to get people to see it. Besides, how would you know how to become a better artist, if you didn't have people drop by your site every so often to let you know what they think of your work?

"Does my comic HAVE to be in black and white? What if I want to do one in color?"

Black and white, color, sepia tone..... Doesn't matter. All are welcome....

"How long does my comic have to be? I just started one. It's two pages long, but I plan on adding more later. Can I add it to the ring?"

Technically, there is no minimum number of pages allowed--(Any work that tells a coherent story in more than one page is a comic as far as I'm concerned). However, I personally, would prefer that your comics be at least five pages in length before you submit them to the ring. I should also say, that there is also no preferred maximum limit to the number of pages--I've seen comic epics that run well over a hundred pages. In this case, all I would ask for is that you double-check all your pagelinks and make sure they all connect to each other. You wouldn't want someone getting stranded in your 200-page story on Page 198, would you?

"I've got a bunch of doujinshi that I just bought while I was in Japan. Can I post them online and have them added to your ring?"

As slick and pretty as the doujinshi from Japan may be, I would prefer you post your own works from your own pen or pencil. And I want to try and run this webring just like the Olympics. Amateurs only. If you're a professional artist by trade, you can submit a comic to the ring, but only if you're not trying to sell it or profit from it. Exceptions can be made, but please e-mail me and run the idea by me first...

"I got together a bunch of pictures of Mr. T and Britney Spears and used Photoshop to splice them into some screencaps of some Gundam Wing episodes and added word balloons and made an adventure. Can I add it to your ring?"

No.

(Actually, what you have there is something called a Crossover Comic. It's not a true comic. If you're looking for a webring to join, try going here.)

Any more questions?....

Just direct them to yours truly, the webmistress, Amethyst Angel....
