Software SuggestionsWhile you're in school, take as much advantage of educational discounts on software as you can afford. (Most college bookstore sell academic software, or you can contact the software companies to see where the nearest academic dealer is.) If you're interested in graphics, get Photoshop and Illustrator. Get RoboHelp or Doc to Help or some other help authoring tool. Get Framemaker. If you know where you'd like to work, learn what tools they use and get them and learn them.Create your own samples. Build HLP and HTML-based resumes. The contents may not be too impressive, but look at the initiative. You can show that you understand information chunking. Volunteer to create or maintain newsletters for some group.
