January 20 : "We Are Standing On The Side Of Love" Rev. Michelle Tonozzi

On this Sunday we commemorate the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and his vision for creating the
"beloved community" wherein no one is denied or excluded. Unitarians and Universalists have historically been in the forefront of the struggle for human rights and human dignity. The struggle continues today. It was almost two decades ago that SCUUF was officially recognized as a Welcoming Congregation. A look back and a look forward to our commitments to stand on the side of love.

January 27: “Listening With Love and Compassion Even With the Most Difficult Personality” - Barb Crawford.

When it became clear that one of Barb’s children was mentally disabled, Barb jumped full force into educating herself about an illness that the world knew little about – Emotional Regulation Disorder, commonly referred to as BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder). BPD is a psychiatric disorder characterized by crippling emotional neediness that often leads to self-injury, intense, volatile relationships, impulsiveness, and a host of related symptoms. It is one of the most misunderstood and mistreated disorders today. Barb has become an advocate, teacher and support group leader for other families dealing with a loved one suffering from this illness. Family members have to learn an entirely different approach when interacting with a person suffering from BPD. Barb is intensively trained in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and is the MN Affiliate Head of TARA (Treatment and Research Advancements Association for Personality Disorder).
