Sell scout building, not camp land

We are proud to have three sons who attained the honor of Eagle Scout and two grandsons who will receive the Life rank in May. I was a den leader and my husband and I were proud to be committed people for Troop 12 and on the district committee, serving with several people committed to the Boy Scouts program. Our son and daughter-in-law continue to serve the Boy Scouts program.

During our involvement with Boy Scouts we watched a lot of boys develop skills such as leadership, outdoor survival, sportsmanship, communications and many others as well as developing lifelong friendships and good citizenship qualities under the excellent leadership of devoted Scout leaders.

A large part of this development took place on the camping facilities of the Twin Valley Council. A lot of these positive, lifelong learning experiences could not have developed without the advantage of our camping facilities and we applaud the foresight of the earlier Scouters for providing these campgrounds.

Hundreds of boys have spent thousands of hours at the Twin Valley Boy Scout camps. They have been a real blessing not only to the boys and their families but to the entire community.

I wonder how many boys have every used the new Boy Scout office. How many minutes has the average Boy Scout spent there?

Perhaps a better move would be to sell off at least part of the new office building to another organization or business. Lands like the camps can never be replaced nor can the laughter, songs and joy of the boys who could gain by keeping that land.
