SUMMER
2008
Nourish
your body, mind, and spirit this summer while staying
connected with others from the Fellowship during the break
from regular Sunday programs.
This
is the complete schedule for all summer events.
All events are at the Fellowship building.
July
13 (
10:30
–
noon
): “The
Whiteness of the Whale”
Melville used this
title for a chapter in Moby Dick, in which he shows how
it makes just as much sense to associate the color white with
evil as the color black. You
don’t have to have read the novel to participate in this
Bagels and Ethics discussion on the role of white privilege
and oppression in our Fellowship.
Refreshments provided by the GRIP Core Team.
August
3 (
10:30
):
Fellowship Sing-Along
Michael
Hormann Jr. and Alan Phillips will join you for a Sing-Along.
Michael will accompany and Alan will saw the air with
his hands as usual. We
will sing some hymns and some other things.
Sing parts or not, your choice.
See you there. If
you need more information call Alan at 320-252-0471.
August 4 (
6:30
pm
):
Council of Committee Chairs
The Council of
Committee Chairs will hold its first meeting at
6:30 p.m.
, Monday, August 4, at the Fellowship building.
If you are chairing or co-chairing a committee this
year, you are invited to attend.
Co-chairs may take turns attending these meetings, if
they choose. The
Council typically meets three-four times during the year.
We will try to coordinate our plans for the year,
including scheduling of activities.
If you have items for the agenda, please email them to jfoster58@charter.net
about a week in advance of the meeting.
August
10 (
10am
to 2pm
)
Summer Fun: GAMES,
FOOD
,
&
FUN
!
Come to the Fellowship for some social fun. A
board game day is scheduled. There
will be several games available to play, such as: Trivia
Pursuit, Scrabble, and Balderdash. Feel free to bring a game
you would like to share. There will also be games for kids to
enjoy too.
There will be a light lunch supplied with beverages but
feel free to bring whatever snacks or treats you deem
appropriate to share while having fun playing board games.
Hope to see you
there, and do not worry, if it is hot we can play in the
sanctuary where it will be nice and comfortable due to the new
air handling systems the Fellowship invested in. See you then!
August
23 (9 am-noon): Fall
Clean up
Please join us in getting the building ready
for fall services to resume and doing some fall/spring
planting and gardening.
August 24 (
10:30 am
): “For the Bible Tells Me So”
We will be showing the documentary “FOR THE BIBLE
TELLS ME SO”. This
film tells the stories of five Christian families, each with a
family member who is gay or lesbian.
There is also discussion by Protestant and Jewish
theologians about how scholars interpret biblical texts.
The Social Justice committee was a co-sponsor when the
film was shown in two area churches and The Pioneer Place in
April. We want to
give SCUUF members, who may have missed it, a chance to see
the film and discuss it.
